Art From The Studio of Jane Knight
"...there
is, infrequently, the artist that delivers works that are striking while
not pretentious, bold while not pompous, and abstract enough to be interesting
without being challenging. Jane is such an artist."
-B. Cardone-
" every day is a blank canvas, make it a masterpiece!"

Laying her brushes down 5 years ago, Jane started using her fingers to
apply the acrylic paint on canvas. Relying on images from her travels
to Italy, around the US and her mind’s eye, her finger paintings
have transformed the way you see imagery. Her fingers glide the
color across
the canvas creating both impressionistic and abstract works of
art. Jane’s
20 years of painting experience flow through each wo-di (Cherokee
word for paint) impression.
Jane describes her technique in detail and says “I finger paint using
acrylic on canvas. I do not use any brushes in my work only my fingers.
I use all my fingers to manipulate and vary techniques to get the image.
I do not use gloves as I prefer to feel my way across the surface to create
the image. Not only do I visualize it but I also feel the image emerge
from the paint. Color is important to me and I try to keep it as pure as
possible. Water is the only addition to the paint.” Jane’s
finished paintings range in size from mini’s 1.5x1.5 inches to 5’x8’.
You can see more of Jane’s paintings on her website www.wo-di.com.
Jane has a studio at the historic Stutz Building in Indianapolis.
You can also see her paintings there every first Friday of the
month.
